Autumn in your Spitfire Home
It’s officially autumn. The mornings are a little cooler, the evenings are beginning to draw in and the first signs of the new season are beginning to appear.
After a summer spent with doors and windows open, there’s something appealing about the shift into a new season. Evenings move indoors, weekends become a little slower and home takes on a different role – somewhere to get cosy, entertain friends and family, or simply settle in for the evening. From small interior updates to making the most of the countryside and green spaces on your doorstep, here are a few ways to embrace Autumn in your Spitfire home.
Make your living room cosy
As the evenings become darker, the living room naturally becomes somewhere to spend a little more time. A soft throw over the sofa, cushions in warmer tones or a textured rug can instantly make a space feel more inviting. Natural materials such as wool, linen and cotton add warmth while still complementing a contemporary interior.
For a sophisticated Autumn palette, look to warm neutrals, soft taupes, muted greens and earthy tones. Paired with natural materials and considered finishes, these shades create a calm, timeless feel that works well beyond the season.
Create a warmer glow
One of the simplest ways to change the atmosphere of your home for autumn is through lighting. As daylight fades earlier, swap brighter overhead lighting for a combination of table lamps, floor lamps and smaller accent lights. Add a few candles to a coffee or dining table and you have a space that feels instantly warmer as evening arrives.
Large windows, showcased across many of our homes, have been designed to make the most of those softer mornings and golden afternoons.
Make the bedroom feel like a retreat
Cooler evenings make a warm, comfortable bedroom even more inviting. Layer bedding with a soft throw, introduce texture and bring in warmer tones through cushions or bed linen. Softer bedside lighting can also completely change the atmosphere of the room, creating a calmer space to wind down at the end of the day.
Step outside
Autumn isn’t only a season to enjoy at home. It’s also one of the best times of year to explore what’s beyond the front door. Across many Spitfire collections, countryside, green spaces and walking routes are part of everyday life.
At Clarendon in Coventry, the nearby Kenilworth Greenway provides a peaceful, traffic-free route for walking, running and cycling, just minutes from home. Discover more here.
At Ellenbrook, Moreton-in-Marsh, the Cotswolds are on the doorstep, with countryside walks, footpaths and picturesque villages waiting to be explored. Blackthorn, Crowle offers another distinctly rural setting, surrounded by Worcestershire countryside and with more than half of the scheme dedicated to open space.
At Sherbourne, Radcliffe on Trent, a variety of beautiful spaces are on your doorstep, while Malabar, Daventry combines its rural-edge setting with extensive open space, green corridors and walking and cycling routes.
Whether your ideal autumn weekend starts with walking boots by the door, a coffee before a morning walk or a Sunday spent at home with friends and family, the season brings plenty of reasons to enjoy both your home and its surroundings.
