Diverse and Design-Led Homes are Key to Meeting Modern Demands

Established more than a decade ago, we have built a strong reputation as a leading Midlands homebuilder by creating sustainable communities and delivering high-quality, design-led properties. Spitfire also has a growing track record for blending the latest trends in interior style with practical modern-day living.

Adrian Clift, Head of Design for Spitfire Homes, discusses the importance of having a diverse product range that meets the demands of today’s lifestyles.

Delivering the Spitfire difference

Our design process ensures that the requirements of our customers are at the forefront, right from the initial concept. Every house we deliver is created with its future homeowners in mind. We carefully consider the needs of those who will call each property home, considering their life stage, to ensure longevity and adaptability to meet their changing needs over time.

Considerations such as multi-purpose reception rooms, which can be utilised as a play room, a snug, an office, a hobby room, or even a downstairs bedroom, help us to adopt the mindset of our customers to understand their requirements. We are all consumers ourselves and recognise what is required when purchasing a home at various life stages, with changing needs depending on demographics, and that is something we try to capture as part of our process.

Throughout the pandemic, we were busy shaping our new housetype range and in recent years it has been exciting to see that come to life with customers moving into the homes based on those exact designs. It is important that we remain agile and responsive to customer feedback, keeping it at the forefront of what we do.

Across this year alone, we have opened the doors to a variety of new show homes – from two-bedroom homes, through to executive detached five bedroom Cotswold residences, showcasing our ability to deliver housing for a range of prospective buyers.

Architectural inspiration at Ellenbrook

Ellenbrook is a collection of 250 new, sustainable homes in the market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, which has been inspired by the surrounding natural beauty and heritage of the local vernacular. Ellenbrook forms part of our Spitfire Homes Bespoke Collection, an award-winning, exclusive portfolio of high-specification properties in some of the most desirable locations across the Midlands. Architecturally, the Spitfire Homes Bespoke Collection showcases unique housetypes designed purely for each development to create a varied product, including this latest statement collection which has been created to complement its charming Cotswold address.

Carefully divided into four complementary architectural styles, whilst remaining within the parameters of the Cotswold design guide, the homes provide variety, yet continuity. In the western half of the collection, you can expect to find homes which comprise predominantly of honey-coloured stone exteriors with pitched slate roofs and dry stone walls with cock and hen detailing, designed to reflect the examples of traditional architecture that can be found within this market town.

The Hamilton, our five-bedroom detached showhome, is an example of this, boasting an open-plan kitchen, dining and family area, as well as a separate living room and study. Both the living room, which includes a feature bay window, and family area provide views across a landscaped rear garden, finished with charming stone walling, through glazed French doors. Upstairs, dropped eaves create sloped ceilings and small Cotswold windows in the bedrooms, adding further charm and character to provide a traditional cottage-like feel. Both primary and secondary bedrooms are spacious and practical, benefitting from en suites and bespoke fitted wardrobes.

Bordering the ‘village green’ area, which will become the focal centrepoint of Ellenbrook, you will find a collection of homes created in a more formal Cotswold architectural style. Demonstrating examples of embellished chimney gables, arched window openings and parapet roofs, and with beautiful decorative railings to the frontages.

Arranged along the southern edge of Ellenbrook, homes have been designed to provide a softened rural edge to the settlement of Moreton-in-Marsh, with homes designed to incorporate a mixture of stone and timber to emulate a converted farmstead.

The final character area found within Ellenbrook is based on 19th century architectural design, again reflecting many examples within the town itself, the homes are created using stone, but also with examples of brick-built properties combined with slate roofs to ensure a range of varied streetscenes.

Sophistication as standard at Fairmont

Fairmont is a striking new selection of 215 stylish homes located in Bishop’s Cleeve, Cheltenham. This collection marked the official launch of our new house type range which we were busy designing over the pandemic. This range showcases the signature design principles and craftsmanship that define our brand. An additional key objective when it came to developing our new range was to evoke an unmistakable sense and feeling of, ‘that is a Spitfire home’. With this in mind, the homes at Fairmont are without compromise; design-led, practical, and rich with style, offering high-quality residences to suit a variety of purchasers and lifestyles.

Throughout Fairmont, we use a considered palette of contrasting materials that reflects the desired style and character of this new community. Red and buff brickwork, chalky white render and golden reconstituted stone makes for an array of varied street scenes, setting the tone for the beautifully considered interiors of each home.

The homes at Fairmont draw on a variety of elements and inspirations from Georgian architecture. We have used a variety of symmetrical elevations, large window proportions and centralised doors to deliver striking exteriors that please the most discerning of buyers. In keeping with the Georgian emphasis on symmetry, the large windows throughout every home in the new housetype range play an important role in creating inviting, airy and sophisticated living spaces for generations to come.

Introducing the Farleigh

The Farleigh offers a particularly beneficial layout for professionals that need both functional and private areas. The open plan ground floor serves as a social hub, perfect for entertaining and hosting, while upper floors provide the opportunity to create home offices, guest rooms, or even a space to workout, catering to the evolving needs of those who may work from home. A recent Forbes survey showed that 63% of respondents in the UK worked remotely either all or some of the time, so as changing lifestyles mean that more people are spending time at home, we believe it’s important to put more emphasis on creating flexible spaces. The private primary suite on the top floor is a standout feature of our townhouse design, offering a retreat separate from the busier parts of the home, perfect for unwinding after a busy day.

Internally each home retains features such as designer kitchens, feature staircases and a selection of premium brand finishes – hallmarks of the Spitfire brand. We believe the kitchen is the heart of any home, which is why kitchens at Fairmont have been individually designed from a unique range created exclusively for Spitfire Homes. Furthermore, the features and fittings of our contemporary cloakrooms, beautiful bathrooms and stylish en-suites have also been carefully selected to deliver a sleek and sophisticated finish.

Adrian summarised:

As the Midlands’ leading housebuilder, we are committed to delivering communities that are uncompromising on design and reflect our values as a business.  We aim to create homes that are sustainable not only in terms of  increasing energy efficiency but also in their relationship with the natural surroundings, to create a long-lasting, positive legacy. As the new Labour government puts housing top of the political agenda, we’re committed to providing a range of diverse homes that customers are proud to call home.
